Job Description

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. Our commitment to excellence in rail transport enables us to provide safe, efficient, and reliable services across every route. Every day, 80,000 colleagues contribute to greener and smarter mobility worldwide.

Could you be the full-time Light Rail Vehicle Operator we’re looking for?

Your future role:
Take on the challenge of ensuring the safe operation of our Light Rail Vehicles, reporting to the Operations Supervisor. You will be responsible for conducting inspections, adhering to schedules, and interacting with passengers while providing a safe and pleasant travel experience.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Conduct, document, and report all required daily pre-trip and end-of-trip inspections/tests on assigned Light Rail Vehicles.
  • Operate your assigned Light Rail Vehicle safely and in compliance with signals, highway warning devices, and station stops along the 34-mile alignment.
  • Make appropriate announcements and notifications to passengers during operation.
  • Keep an itinerary of your assigned runs and adhere to time schedules.
  • Serve as a frontline point of contact with customers, ensuring respectful and considerate interactions while complying with all passenger relations procedures.
  • Perform routine servicing of Light Rail Vehicles, including fueling, sanding, washing, inspecting, and troubleshooting basic mechanical issues.
  • Comply with federal regulations concerning certification, hours of service, drug and alcohol testing, and passing required examinations on rules, physical layout of the railroad, and train handling.

We’ll look to you for:

  • The ability to effectively issue instructions to various crafts for safe operation and maintenance activities.
  • Compliance with the federal regulations requiring hearing and vision acuity testing under 49 CFR Part 240.
  • A clean driving background check as mandated under 49 CFR Part 240.

All about you:
We value passion and attitude over experience. While we don’t expect you to possess every skill, here are some that will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Strong understanding of safety protocols related to rail transport.
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for a minimum of five years.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent communication skills for making passenger announcements and notifications.
  • Capacity to make decisions in high-pressure, time-sensitive situations.
  • Familiarity with basic mechanical troubleshooting of Light Rail Vehicles.
  • High School Diploma/ GED Required

Things you’ll enjoy:
Join us on a fulfilling career journey in the rail industry where you can continuously develop new skills and experiences. You will also:

  • Experience a dynamic work environment free of monotonous daily routines.
  • Play a critical role in operating state-of-the-art Light Rail Vehicles.
  • Collaborate with supportive and dedicated colleagues.
  • Contribute to safe and efficient transit services for communities.
  • Enjoy competitive rewards and comprehensive social coverage.

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
