Summary :
The IT and Radio Frequency (RF) Manager oversees the planning and optimization of radio frequency networks and IT for public media stations, KUNC and The Colorado Sound, and provides excellent customer service support. This position assists in developing and implementing processes to continue to streamline and enhance programming.
Essential Functions: - Ensures that the network is designed and configured to provide optimal coverage, capacity, and quality of coverage to listeners.
- Oversees the planning and optimization of radio frequency networks for the stations.
- Manages frequency allocation, antenna placement, transmission power control, interference management, and network parameter tuning.
- Collaborates and provides supervision to contracted radio engineer.
- Ensures security of computer systems and electronic data and oversees all computer-related activities.
- Develops and implements customized systems for IT and provides training to employees.
- Ensures the network meets operational and legal requirements.
- Tests RF design elements and troubleshoots RF and IT issues.
- Works with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet overall system requirements and uses network analysis tools to optimize RF networks.
- Performs RF path loss calculations, system predictions, and modeling.
- Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots IT networks and supports functions of IT related to RF and programming.
- Creates and updates RF documentation, including technical specifications and schematics.
- Stays up to date with the latest IT and RF technology trends and advancements.
Additional Responsibilities :
- Attends public media webinars and conferences and learns from colleagues within KUNC & The Colorado Sound and from other public radio and tv stations.
- Assists with station events, including event registration, set-up, and other event-related tasks as needed.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :
Knowledge :
- Knowledge of radio frequency transmission, allocation, placement and how to troubleshoot issues.
- Knowledge of current IT and RF programs as well continue to learn and adapt to new technologies as they come online.
Skills :
- Operate a computer with proficient skills in Microsoft Suite, such as Excel, Outlook, Word, and all specialized tools unique to the RF/IT interface.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Able to prioritize multiple deadlines and project assignments without minimizing quality and accuracy.
- Very high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing utilizing proper grammar.
Abilities :
- Works with little supervision and exercises reasoned independent judgment.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all KUNC & The Colorado Sound employees and the community.
- Works cordially and collaboratively as part of a team and/or committee.
- Upholds the high professional standards, confidentiality, and workplace ethics that are essential to work in a public media and non-profit organization.
- Eager to provide excellent customer service and assist customers in a variety of situations and in a patient, professional manner.
- Handles multiple priorities and simultaneous deadlines accurately, organizing and completing tasks according to their importance.
- Ability to work additional hours if needed, including nights and weekend and during membership drives.
Experience & Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in RF/IT interface is required.
- Proficiency in network development and the unique interface between radio broadcasting and the information technology space is required.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license and residency within the KUNC & The Colorado Sound’s listening area.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Or an equivalent combination of skills and experience may be considered.
Physical Demands & Work Environment :
This position involves a combination of office-based work and traveling to offsite locations, including transmitter sites in rural locations. The position is required to:
- Frequently stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently listen on phone calls and video meetings.
- Frequent external community engagement/promotional work at various locations within our broadcast service areas.
- The employee may need to lift up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be made as needed.
